Geoeconomics

Tools

Geoeconomics has developed a variety of customised tools for data gathering, performance assessment and strategic appraisal.

The Green Knowledge Economy (GKE)

Knowledge economy performance benchmarking tools are combined with powerful new GKE tools – strategy matrix, special survey and facilitated workshop – to help clients develop bottom-up ‘green and grow’ strategies for their local economies. We advise local authorities on methodologies and processes for integrating the GKE model into Corporate Plans, Core Strategies and Sustainable Community Strategies.

Visioning the 2020 Economy

We evaluate, refresh and develop visions of the 2020 economy for local and sub-regional policy-makers. These ‘visioning’ exercises link evidence and strategy and have proven to be highly successful in achieving high levels of business, political, policy-maker and community engagement. The GKE framework has proven to be highly effective here.

Corporate Economic Impact Assessment

With partners Oxford Economics we map and measure the contributions of major companies to regional and local economic development. Recent reports for aerospace, defence and nuclear energy companies are based on Geoeconomics advanced spatial modelling and GIS capabilities, combined with economic development understanding.

The latest version of the Geoeconomics knowledge economy performance assessment tool is now available. New Clients for this assessment work include Somerset and Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole. The results are being used to support LAA and MAA partnership work in these rural and urban areas of the South West region.

Geoeconomics, together with Oxford Economics, has launched a new service for corporates looking to assess their economic and social impacts. This analysis provides a comprehensive and consistent set of quantitative measures and maps for professionals to determine their company’s contribution to the economy, both direct and indirect.  For more information you can download a brochure here or contact Sarah Forster at sarah@geoeconomics.co.uk

Sustainable Development Audits

Geoeconomics offers a basic assessment tool for measuring and benchmarking sustainable development at the local or sub-national level. With Britain’s local communities facing years of austerity, spending cuts and job and business uncertainties, the need to understand an area’s sustainability – economically, socially and environmentally – has never been greater and more urgent. Our Sustainable Development Audits are designed to help local partners to achieve a shared understanding of their area’s resilience in ‘facts and figures’. The results can be used to baseline and benchmark the sustainability of places and encourage bottom-up partnerships between the private, public and non-profit sectors.

Large-scale Surveys

We design, manage and build relational database and statistical tools needed for large scale surveys. A successful recent example of this work is our social enterprise mapping and measurement project for the Welsh Assembly. We have also evaluated and advised on Yorkshire Universities’ graduate tracking surveys. This technical work is led by Dr Martin Frost, who directed the geography-based longitudinal survey analysis for the National Evaluation of Sure Start.
